According to the latest information, many smart devices will stop working in the next one or two years.
Let’s understand in detail
Internet of Things ie IoT devices, We call them smart devices, have secure certificates installed with which these devices make a secure connection, and exchange data.
Security researcher and consultant Scott Helmy told “The Register” that a lot of gadgets will stop working in the next few years as their certificates are expiring.
Companies make their own devices and in those IoT devices that they manufacture, they install certificates to be used for the next few years so that they can exchange data and they also renew these certificates through future updates. But as these devices get old, companies stop giving them updates.
These devices include smart TVs, smart refrigerators, and older smartphones.
Mainly, all the equipment which takes the input from the consumer to complete a task and gives the output i.e. the equipment which uses the data, these certificates are installed in them and this certificate has an expiry date,
If the company does not renew these certificates through its updates, then that equipment will not be able to work.
Nowadays almost every device is becoming smart, that is, you can do any work from anywhere just through your smartphone, like sitting in the office, you can turn off the home’s smart AC or you can do hundreds of more tasks like this from anywhere.
But if the security certificate of your smartphone expires, then you will not be able to do all these tasks with your smartphone.
Companies also forget their old equipment in celebrating their new equipment and then this kind of problem arises.
